(Anyone can be in this, if it takes your fancy.)
I watched him practice. It struck awe in my heart and left me speechless. He was so talented, I couldn't take my eyes off him. I hoped he wouldn't see me as I shuffled closer to hear better. He was my idol, everything I wanted to be. "Wow.." I mumbled, under my breath as I watched on, wide-eyed.

Patrick had finally found some time to himself. Between fans and his own band members, he hadn't had the time to spend a moment alone. He'd snuck off the bus earlier, guitar in hand and hat pulled low over his face, hoping that he could actually try and get something done for the next album. Just because it wasn't coming out anytime soon, didn't mean he didn't have ideas already.
Curled up beside one of the buses, Patrick was humming along with the guitar he strummed at, not really sure where he was going with the sound yet. It was just a mess of noise in his head at the moment, he just hoped it didn't sound too rough out loud.
There was a scuff near by and he looked up, catching Brendon watching him. Scrambling to pull his guitar closer to his chest, Patrick ducked his head a little to hide his face under his hat. “Hey, I didn't see you there.”

Brendon, quickly looked away and back at Patrick, blushing insanely fast that he'd been noticed. He was so caught up in listening to Patrick that he forgot all manners.
He wandered over slowly, stuttering along the way. "S-sorry... startled you, didn't I?"

Letting his guitar drop back into his lap a little, Patrick smiled over at Brendon. "A little, but it's fine. I should be used to people sneaking up on me by now." He didn't want the young boy to feel like he had done anything wrong. Brendon was part of Pete's baby band and, even though he wasn't the one that hovered over them like Pete, Patrick just couldn't stand to see any of them looking upset or worried.
He shuffled back, leaning more against the side of the bus. "Were you looking for someone? I thought you would be hanging out with some of the other guys."

"No, they're all off doing other... things, and yeah, it was weird so I left." Brendon sat down and put his hands between his knees, still looking at Patrick's guitar. He felt awkward that he wasn't like Patrick, because he didn't come from the same background as most people in bands. He was found online and didn't have to work his way through bands and scenes to get where he was.
"That sounded really good, Patrick."

"Oh....they haven't started drinking this early in the day, have they?" While they did stupid things sober, Patrick was more bothered by the fact that, the stupid things they did while drunk were much worse. Drunk people and a whole lot of expensive equipment that wasn't always easy to replace, was not a good mix.
Catching Brendon staring at his guitar, Patrick grinned, picking it up and holding it out to him. "Here, you should play something for me, in return. You know, for listening to me before."

Brendon carefully took the guitar from Patrick's hands, while stating "They're not drinking, they're just, making it awkward for me to be around, so I left." He started mindlessly picking chords, just making music to back up the conversation, take away the awkward from the silences. "H-how are you, anyway?"

"Oh, Pete and Ryan again?" Those two made even Patrick feel uncomfortable sometimes, and they weren't even doing anything. It was just the brooding artist thing that unnerved him.
Patrick tried to hum along with the tune Brendon played, tapping out a beat with his fingers. "I'm...alright. It's been a bit busy, nothing I'm not used to though. How about you?"

"I was pretty much normal and fine till Pete and Ryan started being completely insane around each other like they usually do." Still plucking at the nylon strings of the guitar, he didn't really pay attention to it anymore. His focus was on Patrick and his mesmerising fingers.
"I was feeling awkward... so I walked over here and heard you playing. And you made me feel... less... awkward." Brendon felt embarrassed at admitting it, but he was honest. "It was, refreshing, to hear a riff that I haven't listened to a thousand times."

Patrick nodded his head, knowing exactly what Brendon was talking about. Pete and Ryan were a little bit intimidating when they were left together. "Yeah, that's part of the reason I'm out here too." He shuffled around so his knees were up by his chin, leaning forward onto them and looking over at Brendon.
"Really? You thought it sounded ok then?" Now was a good chance to ask for an opinion, before he took it to the rest of him band. Patrick ran his fingers down his legs, one of his slightly chipped fingernails catching on the denim of his jeans. "I mean, it's just something I'm working on and...it's new, I understand if it wasn't that good."

"I haven't heard anything like it, it's amazing!" Brendon's eyes lit up like his home town, he tried to find words to give Patrick's talent justice, but didn't find them. Instead, he opted for a compliment. "I want to be able to play like you."

Tilting his head so his cheek was resting against his knees, Patrick grinned. "It's good then?" He loved it when his music worked for other people, it proved that he actually had some talent that wasn't just in Pete's head and imagination.
He reached a hand out and tapped at Brendon's shoulder, laughing. "You're an idiot. You can play just fine already." Shutting his eyes he sighed. "I'm the one wishing I could play like you. Imagine if I could play piano like that. Too bad my fingers are just a little too short." To prove his point, Patrick wiggled his fingers that were resting on Brendon's arm.

He watched Patrick's fingers and giggled at his description. "You're a great pianist as you are! We've all watched you play your keyboards before. I guess we're both more talented than we thought we were." Brendon placed the guitar next to him, and stretched out, sore from being cramped into small spaces and from leaning forward to listen to Patrick.

Patrick shrugged, laughing as he put his hand back in his lap, giving his fingers one last look first. "I guess so." He looked back up from his hands, smiling. "I'm surprised Pete hasn't asked you to marry him yet, he's a sucker for boys with talent, or so he says." Leaning forward, smirking a little, he whispered to Brendon. "Or has Ryan already asked you? He looks like the type to do that too. Is that why you're in the band? You can tell me."
Leaning back against the bus again, Patrick laughed loudly.

Brendon leaned back after his stretch, with a yawn. "I'm 99% sure they're going to marry each other, I'm just a third wheel in their relationship, which I guess everybody is when they're around those two. I'm just in the band as Ryan's back up." He regretted not having the confidence to have said anything to be in their friendship, but he simply didn't have the same connection they did, and he missed the chance to fake it.
After a short silence, he added, with a giggle, "If Pete was such a sucker for talented boys, he'd have already asked you to marry him!"
