It wasn't just flames that took it down. We hid, not in the forest, not in the basement, but simply in our tour van. Most people were panicked. They left the house in search of loved ones and never returned. When Sisky decided to look for water, I watched as he was pounced upon by a creature I would never have recognized. We lost Spencer when the ground collapsed beneath him.
In the end, Ian was the only one left. We hid in the back and watched everything fall apart around us.

We watched the world crash down.
Cities that had once appeared so strong were reduced to rubble. People who we'd loved were beneath it. Ashes covered the ground. Flames lit up the sky. Those were the least of our problems.
When Dallon got in that car and drove away to find his family, I knew I'd never see him again. Brendon was dragged away when we tried to escape our last hiding spot in a building (the tour van wasn't particularly safe, but what place was?)
I pulled my knees up to my chest, wrapping my arms around them tightly. Our water supply was running low. After Sisky was attacked, neither of us dared go searching. I looked up at William, sitting across from me. The only other survivor.
"Where do we go?"

"Go?"
Things had been calming down. We had both seen it. Life wasn't grinding to a halt- only civilization. Only humanity. Outside the world was going to be different. We weren't going to cope in here forever. I wasn't going to cope out there, either.
